According to MMAjunkie.com, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has been fined $50,000 for failing to appear at a media event. “The Spider” was scheduled to show up in Los Angeles on Tuesday to help promote UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman.
“We had a full media day set up for him in Los Angeles, and he just decided he didn’t want to do it, so he’s being fined $50,000,” UFC president Dana White said. “He doesn’t like talking to the media, but it’s part of his contractual obligation.”
White and the UFC have had issues in the past with Nick Diaz failing to show for press events, but this is the first time Silva has done so. He was expected to appear on several local TV and radio stations, along with a luncheon.
