The 2013 Summer Series for Bellator will see the promotion slightly change their format for tournaments. In place of the usual eight fighters, this summer there will be four person tournaments. While only the summer is planned like this, things could change according to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney.
“There’s no hard and fast [rule],” said Rebney on MMA Junkie Radio. “They can potentially take place in the regular season, as well. It’s all about trying to figure out how to get more world title shots set up for the guys, so that at minimum our guys are defending the titles three times a year – which is where we want to be.”
The Summer Series begins with Bellator 96 and is headlined with Michael Chandler defending his lightweight title against Dave Jansen.
The show comes from the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, OK on June 20. Spike TV will air the main card. It will be their first show since early April.
