Chael Sonnen claims to be the highest paid fighter in the UFC and plans to invest that money upon his retirement with a substantial business purchase. “The American Gangster” apparently wants to purchase the WWE.
The largest professional wrestling company on the planet is valued at half a billion dollars. A representative of Sonnen says there is truth to the idea and planning has already begun.
“It is 100% Chael’s intent to buy the WWE,” said the representative to TMZ. “Chael is already meeting with bigwig friends in the investment world to enact his takeover.”
Majority of the WWE’s shares are held by the McMahon family. Vince Sr. owned the business before selling it to his son Vince Jr. The McMahon family has owned the WWE since 1952.
A spokesperson for the WWE said the company is not for sale.
Sonnen just took a light heavyweight title loss to Jon Jones. He entered off a loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva the year prior. Sonnen recently called out Wanderlei Silva for a fight and the two are already exchanging verbal jabs on Twitter. That fight has not been made official.
Former WWE champion CM Punk is friends with Sonnen and was spotted at UFC 159 watching his friend loss in the opening round.
