Kelvin Gastelum made history twice on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17. By winning the reality show, the 21-year-old was the youngest person to ever compete in the show’s history. He’s also the first fighter to be selected last by the coaches and win.
“Being picked last was kind of stressful,” said Gastelum on BJPennDotCom Radio. “I was like, I hope Chael [Sonnen] picks me, I hope Chael picks me and finally I was picked last. I didn’t know if I was going to win but I knew I was going to fight my heart out and see how it turned out.”
To get in the house, Gastelum took a decision. Two submissions and a knockout win later, Gastelum landed a spot in the finals against fellow teammate Uriah Hall.
At TUF 17 Finale, in a split-decision, Gastelum beat Hall. Gastelum has no return date as he prepares to drop down to welterweight.
