Frankie Edgar started 2012 as the lightweight champion and now finds himself on a three fight losing streak in separate divisions. The former champion is 0-3 in his recent outings.
“It sucks having three losses in a row, but I have to play it for what it is,” said Edgar to Rebellion Media. “I don’t think I had any bad performances in that run. There are some things I need to work on technically and strategically, but I feel like I’m still on my way up. This is just a bump in the road and I’m going to get back on track.”
To begin 2012, Edgar lost his lightweight belt in a close decision to Benson Henderson and the subsequent rematch over the summer had similar results. In his featherweight debut, he failed to dethrone the champion Jose Aldo.
Edgar will look for his first featherweight win when he meets Charles Oliveira.
They are set for UFC 162 on July 6. It comes from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV and will be Edgar’s first non-title fight since 2009.
