Daniel Cormier’s future was in his hands if he wanted to remain a heavyweight or make the light heavyweight drop. The former Strikeforce grand prix champion has opted to remain in the UFC heavyweight division.
“At the end of the day I can’t cut massive amounts of weight,” said Cormier to Bleacher Report. “I can diet and when I’m dieting I can still fight. Can I fight at 205? No, because it’s too much weight to cut in a short period of time. But could I fight a heavyweight fight and just be a little lighter? I think so.”
At UFC on FOX 7, Cormier took an easy decision against Frank Mir. It was his debut for the promotion, being one of the few heavyweights that remained with Strikeforce until they folded.
The win makes Cormier 12-0, which includes victories over Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and Josh Barnett.
