Roy Nelson is fine about a possible fight with Daniel Cormier, but if the heavyweight leaves the victor he wants a light heavyweight championship shot. As always, it’s tough to understand when Nelson is joking as it would be a serious cut in weight.
“I think the reason Mike, my manager, said anything about Daniel, is because he’s supposed be getting an immediate title shot at 205,” said Nelson to Bloody Elbow.” If he’s going down to 205, it doesn’t really make any sense to fight him, unless we’re going to fight for a 205 contendership. Then hey, we can do that, too.”
Both fighters are riding a wave of momentum. Cormier remains undefeated and took an easy decision to Frank Mir late last month. Nelson just knocked out Cheick Kongo in the first round of UFC 159. It’s the third straight times he’s done that.
Cormier has expressed interest in dropping to light heavyweight, but hasn’t made the official decision.
Neither fighter has anything confirmed about their next opponent.
