After an early decision loss, Constantinos Philippou has made it a habit of leaving the Octagon as the winner. He feels a win over Ronaldo Souza will place him amongst the best of the lightweights.
“I think beating Jacare should get me the top three guys in the world,” said Philippou on MMA Junkie Radio. “But let me beat Jacare first, and that’s not an easy thing to do, then we’ll take it from there.”
Last year Philippou beat Court McGee, Riki Fukuda and Tim Boetsch. He finished Boetsch in the third round.
Souza comes from Strikeforce and was once their middleweight champion. Prior to that, he held gold in DREAM.
They go at it as the co-main event of UFC on FX 8, though word is Philippou has a cut and won’t fight. It hasn’t been confirmed. The card is May 18 from Brazil’s Arena Jaraguá.
