Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) CEO Mark Pavelich spoke with Kimbo Slice before joining the UFC and knew he had the charisma to make it in the world’s largest MMA promotion.
“I can play you video where they [the UFC] ask us a question one time about Kimbo Slice,” said Pavelich to Bloody Elbow. “And the first thing, DW [Dana White] is on the other line saying ‘no we would never put that clown in our organization’ and then a year later Kimbo Slice is in his show.”
White made Slice compete on The Ultimate Fighter, which saw him loss to the eventual winner Roy Nelson early in the season. He was the first pick by coach Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Slice would go 1-1 for the UFC as a professional prior to his release. He’s shifted his career towards boxing and is 7-0. The heavyweight has never competed for the MFC.
MFC returns on May 10 from the Shaw Conference Center in Canada. It’s headlined with Chris Barnett vs. Smealinho Rama.
