Ronda Rousey, UFC 160, Demian Maia: The Morning News Roundup – 5.1.13

Happy hump day, fight fans. We’ve got a good block of news for you this morning, including a preview of UFC 160, an exciting fight announcement at welterweight, and the return of Chael Sonnen to Fuel TV. And did I mention a new pic of Ronda Rousey? I can think of much worse ways to start your day. Here goes:

• Rousey was one of only a handful of athletes chosen to grace the cover of ESPN the Magazine’s 15-year anniversary issue. She’s a little (okay, a lot) more clothed than her debut for last year’s “The Body” issue, but if you’re like me, you’ll take all the Ronda you can get!

• The UFC 160 fight card is set, and scheduled to go down on May 25. Plenty of great fights but I have to say I’m most looking forward to seeing Mark Hunt take on Junior dos Santos. I like Junior a lot but a Hunt victory would be the greatest Cindarella story MMA has seen in years.

Rumors abound that Demian Maia vs Josh Koscheck will be going down at UFC 163. Maia has taken the welterweight division by storm since he dropped down from 185 and after his dominating performance over Jon Fitch, many are clamoring to see him challenge Georges St. Pierre. An impressive win over Koscheck would likely seal the deal for a Maia title shot.

• Sonnen was back on UFC Tonight to reflect on his fight with Jon Jones and issue a challenge to MMA legend Wanderlei Silva. I think this is a great fight for both guys, both stylistically and as entertainment value for the fans. See the video here.
