Jon Jones has made history in the past and recently tied the record for most light heavyweight title defenses with five. The original keeper of that record, Tito Ortiz, has no problem with Jones looking to break it.
“If I’m under a person who holds the record, I think Jon Jones is the man [it should] be,” said Ortiz on The MMA Hour. “I really don’t see anybody to beat him. I don’t think anybody can really get close to him. His mindset is perfect. I think it’s how a champion should be.”
The former champion and UFC hall of famer felt that Jones was so dominate thanks to his wrestling.
At Saturday’s UFC 159, Jones made quick work of Chael Sonnen in the opening round. He won the title in March of 2011.
Ortiz retired at 16-11-1, where he fought almost exclusively for the UFC. He now runs Primetime 360 Entertainment & Sports Management Inc with his featured client being Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.
Jones has no return date inside the Octagon as he suffered a broken toe in the final moments of his win against Sonnen.
