Anderson Silva, Dana White, Alexander Gustafsson: The Morning News Roundup – 4.30.2013

Welcome to your Tuesday news day, where we put UFC 159 to bed and set our sights on what’s next for MMA’s pound-for-pound king. Today’s top stories:

Reports are surfacing that Anderson Silva put a call in to UFC President Dana White after UFC 159 to ask for a super fight. Anderson has been lobbying to fight Georges St. Pierre for a while now, but the timing of the call has led many to speculate that “the Spider” is finally opening up to the possibility of a match with Jon Jones. Although Jones-Silva could potentially be the biggest MMA fight in history, I hope Anderson isn’t sleeping on Chris Weidman, who he is scheduled to defend the middleweight title against this July.

• Speaking of Jon Jones, the UFC LHW champ has made it clear who he wants his next opponent to be, and his sights are set on Alexander Gustafsson. The lanky Swede is riding an impressive 6-fight winning streak but says he’s itching to get back in the cage. After Jones’ gnarly foot injury Saturday and the assumed long layoff that comes with it, we may see Gustafsson take another fight before he challenges for the belt.
