Roy Nelson made a push for a future UFC heavyweight title shot, but it appears as if he’ll need another victory to get it.
Nelson floored Cheick Kongo and finished him Saturday night at UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen, and promptly asked to face the winner of May’s Cain Velasquez-Antonio Silva bout for the title.
Instead, UFC president Dana White said during the post-fight press conference that “Big Country” will draw either Daniel Cormier or Mark Hunt for his next fight.
Cormier is coming off a victory over Frank Mir in his UFC debut and is unbeaten, while Hunt takes on ex-champ Junior dos Santos next month.
The former Olympian didn’t take long to respond to the possible challenge, writing on Twitter, “Hey (White) ur right I think Roy Nelson and I would be a damn good fight. How about it (Nelson)?”
