Despite telling the post-fight show on FUEL TV that he had no idea who he wanted next, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones did make a case for Alexander Gustafsson next.
Jones, who suffered a broken toe during his win over Chael Sonnen at UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen, stated that he doesn’t “think (the injury) effects his plans too much.”
“Bones” went on to decline whether he wanted Lyoto Machida or Gustafsson next, but during the post-fight press conference, he pushed for “The Mauler” to become the No. 1 contender.
Machida, who lost to Jones previously, was in attendance. Rumors the two might be paired up for the FOX Sports 1 show in August likely hit a snag if true with the injury.
