UFC 159: Steven Siler Vs. Kurt Holobaugh

Steven Siler vs. Kurt Holobaugh

We begin action with the first of two Facebook featherweights, as Steven Siler (21-10) takes on Kurt Holobaugh (9-1). The referee in charge will be Gasper Oliver.

Round 1: Expect a quick striking battle, especially to start. Siler tying Holobaugh up, looking to possibly work him inside the clinch battle. Siler tightens a Muay Thai clinch, does a little damage, but is unable to hold on to it. Holobaugh with a good combo, followed by a knee, and he now has him tied up against the fence. Siler scores a powerful double-leg takedown, quickly takes the back, has both of his hooks in and is peppering Holobaugh with punches while seeking a rear-naked choke. Siler remains locked on the back, despite Holobaugh standing up. Blood is dripping from the face of Holobaugh now, while continuing to eat punches. A nice roll, Siler locks in the body triangle, has an arm almost secured around the neck and there is a minute left. Holobaugh, despite Joe Rogan thinking he was done, survives, but is still caught in Siler’s grasp. This has been all Siler. I can’t remember seeing a 10-7 round, but this was pretty close.

Round 2: Holobaugh comes right out, looking to strike, but gets taken down. However, Holobaugh grabs hold of a guillotine on the way down, but is unable to lock it up. Siler on top, avoids a triangle, stands and charges at Holobaugh only to get taken down. Holobaugh with a big left as he dives down. Siler scores with a sweep from the butterfly guard, just perfectly execute. Massive right hand by Holobaugh and Siler shoots. Siler responds with a pair of upkicks, while Holobaugh reigns down with some big lefts and rights. Another elbow by Holobaugh and he’s cut open his opponent. More upkicks from Siler, and Holobaugh allows him to stand to avoid the kicks. Holobaugh finding his range, catches him with straight lefts and rights.

Round 3: Just like the first 10 minutes, these two are teeing off and landing everything. An awesome pace set and yet to be slowed by either fighter, as Holobaugh lands some big knees to the body. Siler breaks the clinch and lands a left hook, follows with two rights and tries to land a knee to the chin that just misses. Siler gets control, is on the back and has the body triangle locked up again while working for another rear-naked choke. Siler finishes strong, unloading several lefts and rights as the bell sounds.
