Former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez left San Jose this past weekend heartbroken after coming up short vs. Benson Henderson for the UFC title.
Now, after re-watching the bout for himself, “El Nino” let it be known that he still believes he should have been awarded the victory. Henderson won via split decision.
“I truly believe I won and have no regrets,” Melendez posted on Instagram Tuesday. “What I have learned from this fight is, if given a 2nd chance, I guarantee I will win leaving no fan or judge with any doubt that I am the better fighter.”
Even UFC president Dana White, who stated that he felt Henderson won, was less-than-impressed with how both fighters finished the close contest.
Melendez, though, offered up his thanks to the HP Pavilion crowd, saying, “what an amazing crowd to fight in front of and I can’t wait to Skrap again.”
