UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones understands why people don’t always root for him. In his young MMA career, “Bones” has defeated the likes of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Vitor Belfort and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Saturday night, he will step inside the Octagon with Chael Sonnen at UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen from Newark, New Jersey.
“People aren’t going to be happy about your success, my dad taught me that at a young age,” Jones said. “I have beaten a lot of people’s favorite fighter. I love my Twitter. ‘Rampage’ has way more fans, Vitor Belfort has way more fans, ‘Shogun’ Rua has way more fans.
“I’m the new guy, of course people want to see the new guy lose.”
Jones will tie Tito Ortiz for the most successful title defenses at 205 pounds should he defeat Sonnen this weekend.
