Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson
Lightweights Nate Diaz (16-8) and Josh Thomson (19-5) are up next, as both are coming off defeats to the main event fighters this evening. The referee will be Mike Beltran.
Round 1: Just 10 seconds in and Diaz throws his hands up, typical Diaz fashion. Thomson throwing a lot of leg kicks. Diaz engages, but Thomson wants none of that and separates. Massive kick to the face by Thomson, but Diaz doesn’t even wince, just continues moving forward. Thomson laughs as Diaz mutters something and we have the second hands-in-the-air throw. Clinch from Diaz, exchange of knees to the body, and Thomson separates. Thomson catches him from behind with what appeared to be shots to the back of the head, but no warning issues. Thomson with a takedown with 30 seconds left in the round. Best exchange of the round comes on the ground.

Round 2: Diaz with some swelling on his right knee, and he starts the round by delivering a low blow to Thomson. Back to action, and Thomson clinches and lands a knee, followed by several elbows. Blood pouring from above nose of Diaz now after those elbows that connected, and Diaz scores a takedown, and lands several lefts and rights while Thomson stands up. Stiff jab from a bloody Diaz lands, who is mixing his punches to the head and body. Pair of knees to the body from Thomson. Head kick hurts Diaz and Thomson swarms, forcing the ref to step in after giving Diaz plenty of time to recover. An excited Thomson even picks up and hugs UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. Upon the replay, the corner threw in the towel just as the ref stopped the assault.
