John Hackleman Calls Wrestling The Base Of MMA

With the UFC cutting some fighters who focused on wrestling and the actual sport being removed from the 2020 Olympics, some are questioning the importance it holds. John Hackleman is all for wrestling and thinks it’s vital to MMA.

“You have to [have it],” said said Hackleman on Sherdog Radio. “These guys that are putting down the wrestling, because wrestling in and of itself is kind of boring to watch — that’s why it’s being pulled from everywhere — but their base is a solid base.”

Hackleman trains fighters out of The Pit since 1985. Some of his fellow trainers include UFC hall of famer Chuck Liddell and light heavyweight Glover Teixeira.

They currently have four gyms in California and one in Nevada.
