As far as UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is concerned, the use of testosterone replacement therapy for MMA fighters is wrong. Silva, who will meet Chris Weidman later this year, was recently asked his stance on the matter – specifically Vitor Belfort, a former challenger, using it.
“My honest opinion and clear is that I am no expert on the subject, but from the moment that you need to make a hormone replacement therapy, it is because something is wrong,” said Silva, during an interview with Tatame. “Or you’re in trouble, or use a substance that could not be used for long time and chose not to be longer producing enough hormones. I do not understand that subject.”
Belfort has been granted a TRT exemption already once this year, and is expected to be given it again for his upcoming fight next month vs. Luke Rockhold. Both bouts will have taken place in Brazil.
