Josh Thomson has the age experience to Nate Diaz by six years, but when it comes to fights, they are close to 24 each. After Thomson watched some footage of Diaz, he saw flaws in his plan.
“I think the experience will play a big factor,” said Thomson on UFC’s Countdown to the Octagon. “There are times he’s fought fights where he could have fought smarter, where he could have won, but he didn’t.”
Thomson spent a large portion of his time for Strikeforce, where he defeated Gilbert Melendez for the lightweight championship and later lost that same title to him. He makes his UFC debut after losing in the trilogy match with Melendez by split-decision in May 2012.
Diaz submitted Takanori Gomi and Jim Miller on his way to a title shot with Benson Henderson. The champion retained his title by decision.
The lightweights are on the main card of UFC on FOX 7 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. It’s this Saturday, April 20, and airs on FX and FOX.
