Joseph Benavidez admits it might not be too smart to take the fight with Darren Uyenoyama to the ground, but might go ahead to prove who is the superior grappler.
“There’s really no point of me going to the ground other than I’ve missed going to the ground and I want to just be able to grapple again in a fight and show that I’m one of the best grapplers,” said Benavidez on Sherdog Radio.
Benavidez wasn’t able to get his wrestling going in a split-decision loss to flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and his decision win over Ian McCall was more standup.
Uyenoyama has two wins for the UFC, submitting Phil Harris last year.
They meet at UFC on FOX 7 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. That will be April 20.
