Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal might have been knocked out of Bellator’s Season 8 light heavyweight tournament, but his manager Mike Kogan isn’t worried. Kogan sees it as boasting how Bellator handles title shots.
“It’s bitter because he lost, but it’s sweet because it validates the tournament structure and what Bellator has been saying,” said Kogan to Bloody Elbow. “Basically, nobody just walks in here and waltzes through without effort. It just doesn’t happen. Anybody can lose at any time.”
Heading into the tournament, Lawal was a strong favorite as he entered as a former Strikeforce champion. He left that promotion after making derogatory comments about a female athletic commissioner following his suspension for steroids.
In the opening round, Lawal easily defeated Przemyslaw Mysiala. Eventual tournament winner Emanuel Newton shocked many with a spinning backfist that knocked Lawal out.
Lawal returns in the Summer Series, which will feature four person tournaments.
