Daniel Pineda started The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Finale, quickly taking a 95 second submission win over Justin Lawrence.
“My whole goal was to use my wrestling for this fight,” said Pineda to MMA Fighting. “Nobody’s seen my wrestling in the UFC yet because I haven’t taken anyone down. For this fight, my plan was to take him down.”
The featherweight did that with a kimura submission, snapping his two fight losing streak and taking his third UFC win to occur in round one.
Lawrence is now 0-2 since taking the featherweight role over the summer.
Pineda stands at 18-9 and took Submission of the Night for his TUF 17 Finale win. The event was on Saturday from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.
