Tarec Saffiedine never had an issue taking a fight. Then the UFC offered him a chance at Carlos Condit for UFC 158 with a month to go. The final Strikeforce welterweight champion turned the offer down due to an injury.
“This time it was particularly hard for me to say no because it was my first fight in the UFC and it was fighting Carlos Condit,” said Saffiedine to MMA Junkie. “But it was such short notice, and I was injured, so unfortunately I had to say no.”
Condit was to rematch Rory MacDonald as the co-main event before he went down with a neck injury while training. Eventually, the former interim champion took a decision defeat to Johny Hendricks on the card. The fight resulted in Hendricks becoming the No. 1 contender.
Saffiedine has four wins from Strikeforce as he prepares for Robbie Lawler. They meet on UFC on FOX 8 from the KeyArena in Seattle, WA. It will be on July 27.
