Cat Zingano took out Miesha Tate and became the No. 1 contender to UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Zingano scored a third round TKO victory at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.
Zingano will now coach opposite the 18th season of TUF against Rousey, while competing for the title after the reality series concludes.
“I can’t wait,” Zingano said. “Me and her, we both are going to rule. I can’t wait for that fight. We are going to put on a battle and it is going to be amazing.”
The match with Tate was tough to call through two rounds, but Zingano (8-0) made sure it wouldn’t go to the scorecards, landing several big knees inside the clinch. The two had some issues in the build-up, but “Alpha” admitted that she admired the former Strikeforce champion afterwards.
“I looked up to Miesha since I started in the sport,” she said. “I was scared to death of her, but I only had time to focus on being my best, figuring out a way to win.”
Zingano and Rousey’s season will air in September on FOX Sports 1, as announced by UFC president Dana White.
