Bubba McDaniel vs. Gilbert Smith

We begin the main card with a pair of TUF 17 alums, as Bubba McDaniel (20-6) takes on Gilbert Smith (5-1). In charge of the action will be Steve Mazzagatti.

Round 1: No touch of gloves from the former Team Jones teammates. McDaniel quickly works to tie up Smith, landing some nice lefts and knees. Three straight elbows nearly floor Smith, but it is Smith who scores and lands in top. Smith with a single-leg takedown two minutes into the round. Not much damage being inflicted by Smith, as McDaniel has nearly made it to his feet. McDaniel attempts a guillotine before switching to the top and landing some nice ground-and-pound.

Round 2: McDaniel connects with a combo, and Smith comes firing back. McDaniel attempts a kimura, releases the hold and goes back to fending off the takedown attempt. Smith tries to kick the lead-leg out, does and works for a choke. McDaniel counters and gets out thanks to getting on the opposite side of the hold. McDaniel takes the back, locks in his hooks and has well over a minute to work. Big shots being hammered down upon Smith, who forward rolls and McDaniel winds up in side control.

FightLine scores the round 10-9 for McDaniel

Round 3: Exchange of lefts, as these two seem to want to engage. Smith shoots, and McDaniel winds up on top, moving to half-guard. McDaniel unloading, tries to transition to the mount, but winds up back in half-guard. McDaniel, again, to the back, and gets his hooks in. Smith reverses, but looks for a triangle with two minutes to go. Quickly, McDaniel transitions to the armbar and gets it, scoring a UFC victory in his debut.
