Andre Berto, a two time welterweight boxing champion could see himself inside the Octagon and hinted that conversations have occurred with UFC president Dana White.
“I talked to Dana White about this the last time I [saw] him,” said Berto to Yahoo! Sports. “Don’t be surprised if I try to get in that thing and win a title. I’ll be the first fighter to win a boxing championship and a UFC mixed martial arts world championship.”
After a 27-0 start, Berto has lost two of his previous three. He takes on Jesús Soto Karass on July 20 from the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
Berto didn’t give more details on the conversation with White. The UFC boss hasn’t mentioned anything about the two speaking.
Former boxing star James Toney’s made an unsuccessful transition into the UFC, losing an early round one match to Randy Couture.
