Fresh off capturing ONE FC’s lightweight championship, Shinya Aoki is open to competing at the featherweight level. It would be a first for the Japanese star who has taken part as welterweight.
“For me, making 155 pounds is no problem and I think it would be possible to fight at 145 pounds,” said Aoki on MMA Mania. “I am ready to face any fighter in the world and if ONE FC wants me to fight in a different division, I will talk to my team and we will decide if it is possible or not.”
Besides holding gold out of ONE FC, Aoki has been the DRAM lightweight champion for over two years now. Of Aoki’s last 11 fights, he holds one loss to Eddie Alvarez for Bellator.
At the ONE FC show last week, Aoki needed two rounds to take another submission win over Kotetsu Boku to capture the belt.
Aoki’s next fight hasn’t been disclosed or what weight class.
