Demetrious Johnson is right on track for a late July return, which lands him perfectly for a UFC on FOX 8 fight.
The flyweight champion had surgery last month to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Johnson told MMA Fighting that he now has full motion in his shoulder. He’s been cleared to shadowbox, but he can’t hit the pads at the moment.
Johnson was looking for his second title defense against John Moraga as the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. That was scratched when Johnson went down with the injury during training.
The champion thinks when he does return, Moraga will get the first crack at the belt. Moraga currently isn’t booked against anyone.
Johnson will evaluate everything when he meets with his doctor in three weeks.
UFC on FOX 8 is July 27 from the KeyArena in Seattle, WA.
