Frank Mir hasn’t fought since early in 2012 when he was defeated by then-UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.
A training injury kept Mir from making the first scheduled bout vs. Daniel Cormier, but the two will finally lock horns on April 20 at UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Melendez.
During a recent conference call, the former two-time UFC heavyweight champion explained that the long layoff will not hinder his performance.
“In the heavyweight division, fights get spread out,” Mir stated. “Once you climb the ladder, it becomes harder to find matchups that help you move forward in your career.”
The 33-year-old Mir (16-6) typically fights twice a year, and has done so since 2007 until last year. He is 3-1 in his last four, and 7-3 in his last 10 overall – with six of those victories coming early.
