CFL Standout Earns MMA Victory

Chad Owens had a standout career competing for the University of Hawaii football team. Now, as the reigning CFL most outstanding player of the year, he is taking his talents inside the cage.

Owens, who helped lead Toronto to the 2012 Grey Cup title, claimed a victory in his MMA debut over the weekend. The 31-year-old earned a decision victory in an amateur bout in Hawaii.

Owens, who played in the NFL, racked up over 3,800 all-purpose yards last year, including 94 catches for 1,328 yards and six touchdowns.

He isn’t the first pro football player to enter the cage, as Matt Mitrione and Brendan Schaub – two UFC heavyweights – also played in the NFL prior to embarking on MMA careers.
