Conor McGregor, Cris Cyborg, Doug Marshall: The Morning News Roundup – 4.8.13

Man, what a weekend. On Thursday night, Bellator capped off their eighth season with a big show that saw more than a few fighters get put to sleep, while on Friday the ladies of Invicta FC rocked the house and Saturday an Irish newcomer stole the show at UFC on Fuel TV 9. There was more than enough MMA action to kill a casual fan – but since we here at FightLine are superfans, we only came away from the weekend with minor injuries. Here’s your news!

Conor McGregor stepped into the Octagon on Saturday a relative unknown, but after wrecking Marcus Brimage in a little over a minute, the dude from Dublin’s sure got a bit of well-earned hype behind him now. How impressive was he? Dana White is putting him on the August 17 UFC card in Boston (remember: Boston almost has more people of Irish decent than Ireland itself). Here are some clips of the carnage in case you missed it.

• Things you need to know about the Invicta FC: Cris Cyborg stepped back into the cage for the first time since her suspension and she eviscerated her opponent; Pat Barry’s girlfriend Rose Namajunas snagged a 12-second armbar; and the Karate Hottie won a belt.

• Bellator 95 on Thursday had featherweight champ Pat Curran sending his opponent off into slumber with a crafty arm-in guillotine, and it had Doug Marshall punching Brett Cooper into oblivion. Here are some GIFs of the destruction. And here’s Marshall talking about the violence at the post-fight presser.
