Gegard Mousasi didn’t train for weeks and fly to Sweden to face Ilir Latifi, but he stuck with the fight anyway after Alexander Gustafsson was forced out.
Mousasi, who battled a knee injury prior to the fight, picked Latifi apart, securing a decision victory in his Octagon debut Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV: Mousasi vs. Latifi.
Nothing has been set as far as his next fight, and with surgery on the horizon, no timetable has been made for the former Strikeforce champion’s second UFC appearance. He’s prepared for anyone, though, the promotion offers to him.
“Next fight, I’m willing to fight anyone,” said Mousasi, during the FUEL TV post-fight show. “I had a knee injury and a cold, but I trained for a fight so I wanted to fight. It was a risky fight. Maybe if we went five rounds, I would have finished him.”
It’s possible that the UFC still looks to pair Mousasi up with Gustafsson later this year.
