An accident during practice ended Alexander Gustafsson’s hope of headlining UFC on FUEL TV 9. It also left the promotion in dire need of someone to fight Gegard Mousasi on a few days’ notice. Ilir Latifi, a training partner of Gustafsson, was named as the replacement in what has been the worst week for Sweden’s top ranked light heavyweight.
“It’s been the worst week of my life,” said Gustafsson on FUEL TV. “It’s terrible. I’m here in my hometown and it was a fight I really wanted. It’s out of my hands.”
Gustafsson said the strength of Latifi would shock many. Latifi enters with far less experience than Mousasi as they headline the event.
UFC on FUEL TV begins shortly and FightLine will be there providing the play-by-play.
