When the UFC announced that Ilir Latifi would replace Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 9, many shrugged their shoulders at who this fighter was. Former UFC champion Rashad Evans trained with Latifi for a short time out of the Blackzilians and wouldn’t be surprised with an upset.
“This guy is fighting in his hometown and he’s got nothing to lose,” said Evan to MMA Mania. “He’s got a very dangerous opponent in front of him and he’s got nothing to lose. This one could be a big surprise.”
Latifi is 7-2 after taking three wins last year. Two of those were by decision. He meets Strikeforce and DREAM star Gegard Mousasi, who is 33-3. Both are making their UFC debut.
They are the new headliner of UFC on FUEL TV 9, which is only an hour away. It comes from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Sweden.
