Just because one doesn’t have a fight lined up, it doesn’t mean anything in a sport where changes can happen suddenly. For Jamie Varner, he’s ready to go if the UFC needs anyone as a late replacement.
“I always try and stay in shape and we have a lot of lightweight fights coming up in the UFC, so you really never know,” said Varner to Fighters.com. One of my goals is try and be ready to fight in case I can. There are a lot of fights coming up, and I am always willing to help the UFC and fill in if I can.”
Varner hasn’t heard from the promotion since he returned last year going 1-1. Joe Lauzon submitted him over the summer before he took a decision to Melvin Guillard to closeout 2012.
The former WEC lightweight champion is currently training for an eight mile obstacle course called Spartan Race. The course involves wall climbing and crawling under barbed wire while in the mud.
Varner is 2-2 for the UFC out of his two separate runs.
