Mike Richman Wants Shahbulat Shamhalaev To Win Bellator Featherweight Title

Mike Richman is close to a featherweight title shot. If he can take care of Frodo Khasbulaev at today’s Bellator 95, he is guaranteed a title opportunity. Pat Curran and Shahbulat Shamhalaev will fight on the same card over the featherweight championship.

“My dream would be for Shahbulat to win so I can fight him for the belt, and get my rematch,” said Richman to MMA Junkie. “I’m not thinking about any of them though. I still have Frodo in front of me and, if I get that far, I’ll still have a full training camp to prepare.”

In the Season 7 featherweight tournament semifinals, Shamhalaev knocked Richman out early in round one. He would later win the tournament.

Richman took a TKO and split-decision to land in the finals of the current tournament. Khasbulaev stopped both opponents.

Daniel Straus was supposed to get a crack at the featherweight title, but broke his hand a few weeks back which was followed up with an arrest on several drug charges.

Bellator 95 airs on Spike TV from Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ later today, April 4. FightLine will be there be there with live coverage.
