Rick Hawn has put forth the effort to becoming a champion and doesn’t plan on slowing down, despite losing a title shot at the start of Season 8 for Bellator. Lightweight champion Michael Chandler submitted Hawn in round two at Bellator 85 in January.
“I worked really hard to get where I’m at,” said Hawn on MMA Weekly. “I put a lot of hours in the gym and a lot of time into things and I’m definitely not going to let go of things easily. You’re going to have to pretty much kill me to take that away from me.”
When Hawn lost in the finals of the Season 4 welterweight tournament, he quickly cut to featherweight to enter the Season 6 tournament. He took two stoppages and a decision to become the No. 1 contender.
He now fights Karo Parisyan at tonight’s Bellator 95. Parisyan comes in after competing for Gladiator Challenge last year. He holds notable UFC wins against Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle and Matt Serra.
Bellator 95 is on April 4 from Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The main card airs on Spike TV at 10 p.m. ET. FightLine will have the play-by-play.
