Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans issued a stern word of warning to Gegard Mousasi in regards to his new opponent during UFC Tonight Tuesday. Mousasi will now face Ilir Latifi in Sweden this Saturday instead of Alexander Gustafsson.
Latifi is a training partner of Gustafsson’s, and will be making his Octagon debut. He is 7-2 in his career, including three straight wins.
“He was one of the first members of the Blackzilians,” Evans said. “We trained together. He was strong. I called him ‘The Strongy.’ He’s a good wrestler and has a lot of power in his hands.”
Most feel for Latifi to pull the monumental upset, he’ll need to catch Mousasi, and “Suga” says he has that ability, adding, “He can put you out with one shot.”
Kenny Florian, the co-host of the show, also said that Mousasi will need to give his underdog opponent his full attention.
“He went from a tall guy to a short, stocky wrestler,” Florian stated. “It’s going to be interesting to see how he adjusts for this event.”
