Rick Hawn opened Season 8 of Bellator looking to dethrone lightweight champion Michael Chandler. In the second round, Chandler remained champion with a beautiful rear naked choke. Out of the title picture, Hawn looks to enter the next tournament.
“I’m hoping to get back in the next lightweight tournament, and hopefully I can get through that,” said Hawn on MMA Junkie Radio. “Obviously it’s going to be a tough tournament – a lot of good lightweights now on the Bellator roster.”
Hawn has competed in two Bellator tournaments. In the first one, he made it to the finals of the Season 4 welterweight tournament before losing to Jay Hieron. He won the Season 6 lightweight tournament to setup his Bellator 85 loss to Chandler.
Chandler is undefeated with 11 wins as he fought almost his entire career out of Strikeforce and Bellator.
The next lightweight tournament hasn’t been confirmed.
