Zoila Gurgel Envisions More Gold Before The Year’s Up

Zoila Gurgel will make her Invicta FC debut later in the week. Before even taking part in her first fight for the promotion against Jennifer Maia, Gurgel’s already enjoying her stay and has big goals for the remainder of the year.

“Jennifer Maia is standing in my way, so I’ll go out there and get that done, and then my goal remains of getting that 125 pound belt in Invicta by the end of the year,” said Gurgel to MMA Weekly.

After competing in Strikeforce, Gurgel joined Bellator where she became their first strawweight champion. She never defended it and three flyweight fights later she vacated the belt by leaving Bellator.

Gurgel has focused on becoming a better mixed martial artist rather than relying heavily on striking.

Maia improved to 6-2 with a pair of wins last year. She’s also making her Invicta FC debut

They meet on the main card of Invicta FC 5, out of the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, MO. The event is this Friday, April 5, and can be seen on the promotion’s official website for $9.95 by clicking here.
