According to Gegard Mousasi, the fighter is still planning to head to Sweden and meet Alexander Gustafsson this Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV: Gustafsson vs. Mousasi.
Reports over the weekend indicated that Gustafsson suffered a cut in training and that the Swedish commission would not likely clear him to fight. Mousasi, however, confirmed on The MMA Hour Monday that he is facing “The Mauler” as far as he knows.
“The fight is still on,” Mousasi said. “I trained for a fight. I don’t care if they change opponents as long as I fight. I just want to fight.”
Given the resume of Mousasi, and the lack of days before the event, a replacement could be difficult. If the fight goes on as planned, Mousasi plans to target that cut on Gustafsson’s head.
“If he’s cut, I am going to make sure I hit him where he’s cut,” Mousasi stated. “I’m not going to be very sportsmanship-like; I just want to win the fight.”
