With former Strikeforce champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and former Bellator champion Zoila Gurgel on the upcoming Invicta FC 5 card, Michelle Waterson is honored to be in the main event.
“That’s crazy to me that I’m headlining above all those girls,” said Waterson to MMA Weekly. “They’re the best in the sport. It’s awesome, but at the same time I’ve got to show up and do my job and do it in a convincing fashion that I can show people that I do deserve that spotlight.”
To close out the show, atomweight champion Jessica Penne looks to make her first defense against Waterson.
Penne won the inaugural atomweight title to bring her record to 10-1. The lone defeat came from Gurgel out of Bellator.
Waterson took three first round wins before taking a split-decision over Lacey Schuckman in her Invicta FC debut. That bout was in October and earned Fight of the Night.
Invicta FC 5 is this Friday, April 5. It comes from the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, MO and can be seen on the promotion’s official website for $9.95 by clicking here.
