Dominick Cruz can’t complain about one part of his ACL injury. Since being out of competition for close to 18 months, Cruz has traveled the world to promote the UFC and his sponsors. As for a return date inside the Octagon, the bantamweight champion isn’t looking to accelerate it by overtraining.
“I can’t wait to get back into the cage for my fans,” said Cruz to Sherdog. “I want a date, but don’t have one. I’m listening to my doctors because if I don’t, I get hurt again. The focus is to not let myself go in there early. I’ll give a date when I have it.”
Cruz won the bantamweight title and made four defenses to boast a 19-1 record. His only loss to Urijah Faber was revenged at UFC 132 with a decision win.
The UFC has moved forward and named Renan Barao as their interim champion. UFC president Dana White has mentioned that it was time to speak with Cruz about his title and future.
In December, Cruz underwent his second ACL surgery as the original didn’t take.
