It was rumored that Vitor Belfort used TRT, which was later confirmed after his January win over top middleweight contender Michael Bisping. According to one of the most tenured fighters for the UFC, the promotion knew he used the controversial substance.
“The UFC always knew that I use, do not do it to cheat,” said Belfort to TATAME. “I have medical monitoring and UFC also accompanies it. Never broken through anything, always acted cleanly. Do blood tests every week to equal the testosterone levels of a person my age. Many people are averse to treatment. I do not. I am in favor of people being open and fair in what they are doing.”
The former UFC light heavyweight champion is just one of the many fighters who have been using TRT. UFC president Dana White has vowed for stricter testing, in an attempt to rid the sport of it.
Belfort returns against the final Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. He took nine wins with two title defenses. In the last five years, Belfort has lost twice. That came to champions Anderson Silva and Jon Jones.
They headline UFC on FX 8. That’s May 18 from the Arena Jaraguá in Brazil.
