Fabricio Werdum is ready for a UFC heavyweight title shot after he finishes Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. While the championship could change hands before Werdum gets a crack at the gold, if he ever does, it doesn’t matter who the bearer of the belt is.
“My focus now is Nogueira fight first,” said Werdum on Pro MMA Now. “After I beat him, I know it’s so difficult a fight, but I’m training a lot for this fight. After then, I don’t’ know who will be the owner of the belt. But, I want the belt. Maybe ‘Bigfoot,’ dos Santos, Cain Velasquez. It don’t matter, I want the belt.”
There’s plenty that could happen which would derail Werdum’s hope to conquer the division.
First, Werdum must get past his fellow coach on The Ultimate Fighter in Nogueira. They are set for June 8 at UFC on FUEL TV 10, which comes from Ginásio Paulo Sarasate in Brazil.
Prior to that, champion Cain Velasquez defends the belt opposite Antonio “Big Foot” Silva at UFC 160. On that same card, Junior dos Santos takes on Mark Hunt with a title shot looming. That goes down on May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Werdum’s wish is possible, but far from a lock.
