George Roop is set to clash with former WEC bantamweight champ Brian Bowles at UFC 160. UFC 160 will be held on May 25, 2013 at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show will be headlined by a rematch between heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. A number one contender bout between Junior Dos Santos and Mark Hunt will be the co- main event.
Roop is coming off a unanimous decision win over Reuben Duran at UFC 158 which served as a successful bantamweight return. Despite earning the victory he is only 2-3 since his octagon debut and has been finished by punches twice out of those three losses. If he loses this matchup expect him to either be cut or extremely close to the chopping block.
Bowles is in a similar position. Since capturing the WEC bantamweight title back in 2009 by knocking out Miguel Torres in the first round, he has only gone a mere 2-2 in his last four fights. Bowles hasn’t fought since 2011 when he lost to Urijah Faber at UFC 139 by submission (guillotine choke) in the second round. Although many fight fans had high expectations for the West Virginia native upon his octagon debut, Bowles hasn’t exactly lived up to them. If he loses this fight he will also be a situation were being cut is a legitimate possibility. Let’s see how the time off will affect him.
