Fresh off his latest win, Darren Elkins will make a quick turnaround as he takes on Chad Mendes in just over a month at UFC on FOX 7. If the featherweight can secure the win, championship gold could be closing in.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” said Elkins on Sherdog Radio. “It’s not going to take a whole lot of motivation just because if I beat Chad Mendes, that puts me right there in the title hunt. It’s a big opportunity, and I’m definitely going to rise up to the occasion.”
Since dropping to featherweight in June 2011, Elkins has five straight wins with four coming by decision. He finished Antonio Carvalho at UFC 158 less than two weeks ago.
Elkins replaces an injured Clay Guida.
UFC on FOX 7 comes from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. Elkins-Mendes are set for the preliminary card on April 20.
