Josh Burkman Argues For WSOF Title Shot, Jon Fitch’s Place

Josh Burkman was considered the underdog in his last two World Series of Fighting (WSOF) fights. He defeated Gerald Harris and Aaron Simpson in those encounters, bringing the former UFC star to 25-9.

With talk a possible welterweight championship being introduced on the next show, Burkman thinks he should be one of the two challengers.

“I think I put on two good fights for this organization against two guys who had winning records in the UFC,” said Burkman to Rebellion Media. “I’ve won two fights I wasn’t supposed to win and somebody needs to start talking about the title picture. There’s nobody in our weight class who has won two fights like that.”

In his debut for the WSOF, Burkman took a decision over Harris and just knocked Simpson out in the first round this past weekend at WSOF 2.

Right before his latest win, WOSF president Ray Sefo announced the winner would fight the highly ranked former UFC star Jon Fitch. Burkman isn’t certain how Fitch plays into the title picture.

“I think I’ve earned the right to say I want a shot at the belt,” said Burkman. “I would love to fight Fitch, but he’s coming off being cut by the UFC and a loss. He should come in here and establish himself.”

With the two apparently on tap for WSOF 3, Burkman said he wanted more money for the fight. That show is on June 14 and comes from a venue to be announced out of Las Vegas, NV. It airs on the NBC Sports Network as part of a three year deal.
